DABBLE

 DRUG AWARENESS BASEKTBALL LEAGUE

DABBLE is a weeklong tournament that is held some time in August of every year for Boys & Girls between the ages of 9 – 15 years old and separate divisions for boys & girls 9 – 12 and 13 -15.

The unique tournament is designed to educate families about the perils of today’s social diseases that plague our communities. Some of them (Drugs, Alcohol, Teen Pregnancy, Gang violence, and HIV/AIDS), no doubt may be major contributors to increased violence in our school systems. They may also be factors that lead to other senseless behaviors in our neighborhoods that are considered at risk.

The league insists that participants attend workshops on game days. Teams not participating forfeit their game.

The workshops, or positive message sessions include interaction with celebrity figures, local NBA talent, local political and law enforcement figures, respected religious, and community leaders. The league which has always been an effort to provide awareness in the Austin Community will become citywide. The informative sessions are tools to educate all attendees (both children and parents) about the social diseases mentioned above, to intervene where applicable, and provide prevention programs to steer our youth to the path of success and righteousness.

The week long program has a detailed structure and schedule that concludes with an award ceremony and participation in the Taste of Austin annual parade. A formative schedule for events and games will be determined after all rosters have been secured.

Our target of 72 teams citywide will impact approximately 800 children, with residual effectiveness reaching thousands more, including parents and other relatives.
